A very fine and rare pair of Shan Thai long knives.

This pair each measure approx 45cms long in their sheaths. Out of the sheaths they measure just under 42cms long with blade each just over 25cms.
Each cylindrical hilt is carved in a similar manner. The surfaces are for the most covered in floral motifs but seen within these floral carvings are two Naga to each hilt. One Naga faces the blade, the other faces the pommels where a carved Garuda with wings spread is seen.
The carved ivory hilts are bound in long silver collars that are enhanced with applied twisted wire works.
The blades are of a typical form for the region, having a slightly narrowed waist, a broadening belly and a semi clipped tip. The spines each have a subtle raised medial ridge running through to the needle point tip.
The sheaths are silver bound bamboo, both in very good condition for their age and each also being enhanced by multiple beaded and twisted applied silver wore work.
Rarely seen are the original baldrics still attached to the sheaths. Each Baldric is a fine plaited twine type that ends in finely crafted rope balls and tassels.

A rare and complete pair of Shan Thai long knives.
